After New York Red Bulls 2-1 win last night over FC Dallas, General Manager Erik Soler was on MSG.com post game show and commented on how Luke Rodgers proposed move to the MLS and more particularly the Big Apple was progressing.
Luke’s move has been delayed over the last ten days because of difficulties in obtaining an American visa due to his criminal record. However, Soler now believes the transfer is finally coming close to completion.
“I really hope so. You know it’s been dragging on a little bit, (but) he’s gotten the last piece of paper now (for his work permit),” said Soler of the Englishman who was allowed to end his contract at Notts County early to make the move after the MLS transfer window closed last Thursday. “He is a speedy, little devil on the top. He can really, really chase people, chase the ball, get in the back of the defense all the time and we need more pace in the team. The team has a good basis but we need a little more pace, a little bit more quality, so that we can change the team around and win more games.”

Birmingham born Rodgers who got ten goals in thirty eight league games this season for Notts County, will join up with ex Aston Villa forward Juan Pablo Angel should his move go through. Luke will be looking to form a partnership with the Colombian who now is captain at New York. The only designated player on the Red Bulls roster (well at least until Thierry Henry joins in the summer if rumours are to be believed) showed his worth with the two goals in the win over FC Dallas yesterday.
Here is the original piece on Luke’s move to USA still being on.
