Columbus Crew won 3-1 at New York Red Bulls. Andy Iro started at the back because Chad Marshall was away with US national team at their pre-World Cup training camp. The big Englishman rewarded his selection by scoring Crew’s second goal of the game with a typical powerful header from a corner. Iro did make a mistake at the back when he miscued a clearance that let Dane Richards through on goal. To Andy’s credit though he did get back to put pressure on Richards as he shot.

Columbus Crew won their second game in four days, beating Kansas City Wizards 1-0. Ryan Smith played the full match for the Wizards but would have liked to be a bigger influence on the game. He had a nice run down the left wing in the early stages but didn’t get too many runs after that which was seen when he changed flanks in the second half. Smith did put some good balls into the box but they like so many others were cut out by Andy Iro. Iro was keeping his place in the team due to the absence of Marshall and was completely dominant in the air. After 20 minutes Kansas City stopped putting any long balls towards the striker he was marking because he was constantly winning the headers. Andy best defensive play was in the second half when he just managed to stretch enough to get a faint header on a cross that would have dropped to an unmarked attacker if he hadn’t got the touch. Craig Rocastle came on as a late sub for the Wizards. Columbus still haven’t lost this season which has made them leaders of the Eastern Conference, Kansas City are 5th in the same division.
Ben Gill started as Interblock Ljubljana lost 1-0 to Triglav Gorenjska in the first leg of the relegation playoff. Interblock will need to win away to keep their place in the Slovenian top flight.
Ferencváros ended the season with a 2-0 loss at Honvéd. Sam Stockley and Anthony Elding both played 90 minutes. Craig Short’s team finish the season 7th in NB I, a good result for FTC’s return to the top flight.
Stuart Baxter’s Finland side lost 2-0 to Estonia in a friendly match at Tallinn.
GAIS lost 2-0 to Trelleborg in the last round of Swedish league games before the break for the World Cup. Kyle Patterson came on 77 minutes into the game and Calum Angus wasn’t named in the squad. GAIS are 9th in Allsvenskan after 14 games.
DVTK lost 5-2 MTK Budapest with Rohan Ricketts not being involved. Ricketts only had a six month contract in Hungary so we will wait to see where his career takes him next. DVTK finish the season in last place in NB I with 17 points.
