Weekend Roundup 30th April-2nd May

FC Twente won 2-0 at NAC Breda to win the Eredivisie title. To read more on this, here is our piece on FC Twente & Steve McClaren winning the Eredivisie.

Waitakere United won the 2nd leg of the O-League final 2-1 against Hekari United but lost the tie overall 4-2 on aggregate. Neil Emblem scored the opener for Waitakere with a good header from a corner early on but the Kiwi side couldn’t get the goals they needed.

Young Boys won 2-0 at last year’s Super League winners FC Zurich. Scott Sutter is still out with the abductor injury he picked up a few weeks ago. Young Boys are three points clear at the top of the Swiss Super League with three games left to play.

TPS won 2-0 away at JJK Jyväskylä, Fulham’s on loan midfielder Robert Milsom started and Chris Cleaver came on in the second half. TPS are currently sitting in 3rd in Veikkausliiga and are still unbeaten this year.

Olympiacos won 2-1 over visiting AEK with Matt Derbyshire starting, but he was subbed off on 72 minutes. Olympiacos are 2nd in the Champions League Place Playoff Group, equal on points with PAOK who are top.

Real Zaragoza won 1-0 at Deportivo La Coruña, Jermaine Pennant wasn’t named in the match squad. Zaragoza rise to 15th with the win in La Liga, two points above the relegation zone with a game in hand on 18th.

Andy Iro continued in the starting line up as Columbus Crew drew 1-1 at Seattle Sounders. Columbus are 2nd in the Eastern Conference having only played four games compared to the six of the teams around them.

John Gregory’s Maccabi Ahi Nazareth lost 3-1 at Hapoel Acre. The side from Nazareth slip back into the bottom two in Ligat Al Relegation Playoff Group.

AGF won 4-1 at Silkeborg with Mark Howard playing in central defence. The win pushed AGF out of the relegation zone up to 10th in SAS Ligaen with three games left.

Jamie Sheldon started as Interblock drew 1-1 with Nafta. Interblock are still in 9th in PrvaLiga but increased the gap to bottom side Drava to three points.

Ferencváros lost 1-0 against bitter rivals Ujpest. Sam Stockley and Anthony Elding played the full game; Paul Shaw came on with 20 minutes to go. Craig Short’s side are 7th in NB I with four games to go.

Ancona drew 1-1 with Grosseto, Kris Thackray didn’t play. Ancona slip to 11th in Serie B.

LA Galaxy continued their great start to the season with a 3-1 win over expansion side Philadelphia Union. Los Angeles remain unbeaten this season at the top of the Western Conference.

Viva Kerala lost 1-0 Mumbai FC with Patrick Sisupalan playing in midfield. Viva Kerala are 9th in the I-League.

Ankaragücü won 1-0 over Trabzonspor to climb up to 11th in Super Lig. Darius Vassell of course didn’t play as he is out for the season.

Santa Clara shared a 0-0 draw with Gil Vicente without Matt Jones playing. Santa Clara slide to 5th in Liga de Honra and now face a difficult task to get promotion.

Kansas City Wizards lost 3-0 on their visit to Houston Dynamos after having a player sent off in the 32nd minute. Ryan Smith was named in the starting eleven and Craig Rocastle came on at the start of the second half. The Wizards slide down to 5th in the Eastern Conference with seven points.

Elfsborg drew 1-1 at Åtvidabergs, forward James Keene came on in the 53rd minute. Elfsborg drop to 4th Allsvenskan.

Colorado Rapids were unlucky to lose 1-0 to San Jose Earthquakes as the only goal of the game appeared to be offside. Gary Smith’s side drop to 3rd in the Western Conference.

APOP Kinyras lost 4-2 to Ethnikos in Cyprus. APOP are 4th in 1. Division Group B.

AIK lost 2-1 to Djurgården after being 1-0 two minutes into the game, Kenny Pavey continued playing at right back. AIK stay in 15th in Allsvenskan with only six points from ten games.

DTVK lost 3-0 at Zalaegerszeg, Rohan Ricketts didn’t play. DTVK are still bottom in NB I.

Molde drew 1-1 at Hønefoss, Ben Amos was dropped down on the bench. Molde are 12th in Tippeligaen with nine points this season.
