John Curtis joins Gold Coast United

John Curtis have made the move to play football in Australia as he has joined Gold Coast United.

As previously reported at EFA, Curtis had been training with the Queensland side for a fortnight in May. At the end of stint he agreed personal terms before returning to England to arrange his move personally and a two week break after a full League Two season. Read the rest of this entry »

Robbie Fowler Signs For Perth Glory

Robbie Fowler will join Perth Glory for next season’s campaign  after agreeing a deal with the Western Australia outfit ahead of the other A-League and Middle Eastern sides chasing his signature.

The 35 year old has been signed on a one year deal with initial reports on the salary ranging anywhere from $600,000 to $800,000 AUD (£360k – £480k) for the season.

The move is expected to be funded by the upturn in attendances Fowler creates wherever he plays in Australia. When he visited Perth with his former side North Queensland Fury a crowd of 12,872 watched, the highest of the season for the Glory. Read the rest of this entry »





Update – Fowler Going For Glory

Robbie Fowler is set to give Perth Glory an answer on whether he will join the Australian side by the end of the week.

Glory owner Tony Stokes held talks with Fowler last week on a recent business visit to England about leaving his current side North Queensland Fury, who can no longer afford to pay his wages after the club fell into financial difficulties.

After an announcement earlier in the week by the FFA (Football Federation Australia) that all A-League teams can now have two marquee players (players that don’t count towards the salary cap), Perth now seem to be in a position to match his current Fury contract of $750,000 AUD (approx. £450,000) a season. Perth Glory have emerged as the new favourites in the race to sign Robbie Fowler after reports in the Australian press reveled that they have been in contact with the former Liverpool Legend.

The 35 year old striker who scored 128 goals in the English Premier League played last season at A-league side North Queensland Fury is up for grabs as the club ran into extreme financial difficulties only to be saved by Football Federation Australia. Every staff member at the club has had to have their contract renegotiated as a result of this, triggering a mini exodus from the club. The Fury couldn’t agree to match Fowler’s previous contract value of a reported $750,000 AUD (approx. £450,000)  per year, opening the door for other clubs to acquire him.
