FC Twente & Steve McClaren Win Eredivisie Title

Steve McClaren’s FC Twente side claimed the Eredivisie crown yesterday by winning the final game of the season.

Twente went into the game knowing only a win would guarantee them the Dutch title and as it turned out, the only result that would have with Ajax winning their final league game.

The team from Enschede faced a difficult trip to NAC Breda who themselves needed a win in their attempts to get into the Europa League playoff places. Read the rest of this entry »





Video – Steve McClaren on Dutch Football Show

This weekend sees the climax to the Eredivisie title race where a FC Twente win would see the side from Enschude claim their first championship.  Steve McClaren would also be the first English manager to win a major European league (that’s including the Premier League) since Sir Bobby Robson won the Portuguese championship with Porto in 1996.

In build up to the weekend, we highlight an appearance McClaren made on the NOS Studio Voetbal TV Show in November last year. The best to describe the show would be like Sky’s ‘Goals on Sunday’ with more talk on current footballing events. Video – David Beckham on Good Morning America

David Beckham was interviewed on American television today as he appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Beckham who is back in Los Angeles to be with his family traveled to Manhattan, New York to be on the show which is a staple of US morning TV.

David spoke on his Achilles tendon injury a month on, the feeling of the injury happening and how he was coping with the rehabilitation. He is still on crutches, which were visible on set behind his chair, recovering from the injury he picked up playing for Milan in a Serie A match on 14th March. Read the rest of this entry »





Waitakere United Win NZFC Grand Final

Waitakere United were crowned New Zealand Football Championship winners after victory in the grand final match against Canterbury United.

Waitakere”s four Englishmen all started as they came back from being a goal down early on to win 3-1. In the process, claiming the club’s second NZFC crown since the reconfiguration of New Zealander football in 2004.

In New Zealand, much like USA and Australia, teams qualify for end of season playoffs through their final league table position. The winner of the playoff is determined champion and not the team that finishes first in the league. Waitakere finished second in the regular season table. Read the rest of this entry »

Gary Smith came out on top in the battle of the British managers in the MLS as Colorado Rapids won 2-1 at New England Revolution. Video – Aiyegbusi Scoring From the Halfway Line

Englishman Korede Aiyegbusi scored a freak goal for Kansas City Wizards in a bye-week friendly against the University of Tulsa at the end of last month. Left back Aiyegbusi looks to play a ball over the top to the forwards but in trying to combat the 20mph winds going in the opposite direction he overcompensates and strikes the ball with too hard.
